Jane Mirandette, is the founder and President/Treasurer of a Colorado Nonprofit corporation, the Hester J. Hodgdon, Libraries for All Program. She is the Founder and Director of the San Juan del Sur Biblioteca Movil, Nicaragua’s first lending library since 2001, which serves the community of San Juan del Sur, and since 2003 the Proyecto Movil, a mobile library project serving thirty six surrounding communities Through the HJH Library in a Box Program she has developed a unique service abroad volunteer program and has helped facilitate the initiation of sSixty five additional lending library projects, in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Honduras. Mirandette has been involved in bringing volunteers to work with community development projects and service projects in Central America since 2005. She is a Charter member of the San Juan del Sur Club Rotarios initiated in 2013. She offers her experience and expertise as a resource in creating sustainable service programs in talks and with on line materials.
A native of Boston Massachusetts, Mirandette lived in New England until 1980 when she moved to Colorado. Her careers have been in surgical and holistic nursing,, public health and accounting. She has a small business coach and bookkeeping business in Loveland, Colorado. Jane currently commutes between Loveland CO and San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
She is the 2015 recipient of the John Ames Hurphry/OCLC Forest Press Award for Excellence in International Library Innovation. Mirandette was honored by the Nicaraguan Library Association (ANIBIPA) in 2012 for her promotion of the lending model and global community education . She is a founding member of their En Tu Biblioteca campaign. In July 2009 received the Presidential Citation for International Innovation from ALA President James Rettig in recognition of the groundbreaking programs the Hester J. Hodgdon Program has sustained since 2001.
