Kari Paulson is the Founder and President of EBL – Ebook Library, founded in 2004 as a subsidiary of ebooks Corporation. Following EBL’s acquisition by ProQuest in January 2013, Kari was appointed Vice President and General Manager of the combined ebook business unit at ProQuest. The combination of the EBL and ebrary platforms will allow Kari to expand ProQuest’s ebook delivery and aggregation capabilities, thereby creating an unparalleled ebook research platform connected to all of ProQuest’s products and services.
Over the decade that Kari spent as President of EBL, she oversaw global operations and product development, strategic planning, global partnerships and managed a team of staff on three different continents. She spearheaded the collaborative process that developed innovative models and products for the library sphere. Her goal remains the same: to bring value to academic libraries through the use of technology.
Most interested in the opportunities and challenges posed by the intersection of technology and publishing, Kari was an early advocate for trialing new technologies and access models, such as mobile access and patron-driven acquisition. She considers herself enormously fortunate to have the opportunity to work in many diverse communities and cultures across the globe, and is both a regular speaker at international conferences and events, and a contributor to industry publications.
Before working for ProQuest and Ebooks Corporation, Kari has had a diverse career in media, having been a voice agent, a radio producer, a film producer, and web development project manager and consultant. She grew up in Minnesota and was drawn to winter sports and began her early career as a professional figure skater in Europe. To this day she likes to spend as much time as possible in mountains skiing (both down the mountain and across it), skating, hiking and enjoying good, clean alpine living.
