Naomi Nelson is Associate University Librarian and Director of the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Duke University. She arrived at Duke in 2010, one year before David Rubenstein’s generous gift allowed the university to move forward with renovating its special collections library. She came to Duke from Emory University’s Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, where she held a variety of positions over 20 years, including Curator for Southern History, Director of the Digital Archive, Coordinator for Research Services, Assistant Director, and Interim Director. She on the faculty of the Rare Book School at the University of Virginia and serves as a presidential appointee to the National Historic Publications and Records Commission. She received an M.L.S. from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Library and Information Science and a Ph.D. from Emory University.
