In the past two ALA conferences, more than 20 presentations discussed the topics of user experience and discovery solutions, and it is clear that even after several years since their introduction to the library space, librarians, vendors and solutions continue to evolve to provide more meaningful services to library patrons.
To coop with the ever-changing pace of user expectations, librarians have utilized tools and method to best design their interface, relying on analysis derived from content usage, metadata and search behavior stats.
The goal of this session is to simplify the discovery solution “lay of the land” by introducing four emerging aspects of discovery emerge and core principles, such as one experience across devices, personalization and exploratory, serendipity-enabled searching, and facilitate a discussion on proven techniques that assist libraries in exposing their collections and providing useful experience for their patrons.
