Title IX and Sexual Assault: Best Practices on Campus

This session will define sexual assault and consent as it applies to international students. We’ll discuss prevention, Title IX, staff training and best practices when dealing with occurrences. Our panel of educators will share their experiences on these issues and help provide further insight on the topic. We will conclude with case studies and engage the audience in an open discussion.

Colby Yeaton is the NAFSA Rhode Island State Rep, currently working at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. Colby works in the international student services office with F1 and J1 students from the college of culinary arts and the school of graduate studies.

Michelle Fatcheric

Becker College International Student Office

Michelle, Director of International Student Services and Title IX Compliance, at Becker College, began her journey in International Education more than ten years ago, first as DSO, and since 2011 as PDSO and international student advisor. Additionally, Michelle serves as Title IX Coordinator overseeing all aspects of nondiscrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct. This unique position has expanded her expertise to include immigration regulations, advising, cultural integration, Title IX/VAWA legislation, policy and program development, and regulatory compliance. Her propensity to understand the intersection of government regulations and transcribe that information into user-friendly material serves her well in both roles.
