In just three more weeks the November elections will be upon us.  The implications of this election are enormous, not only at the presidential level, but also for the balance and composition of the U.S. House and Senate. This session will review the potential election outcomes of the executive and legislative branches and their implications on policies, congressional committees and agendas that will influence international education for the next several years to come.

Kenneth J. Reade

Director of International Student & Scholars Services

Ken Reade is Director of International Student & Scholar Services at the University of Massachusetts Amherst since 2014. Ken has worked in the field of International Education since 1989. Prior to joining UMass Amherst he held positions at the Office of Visa & Immigration Services at Dartmouth College, Executive Director of the Central College London Studies Program, and similar positions at Pacific University, and the University of Illinois-Chicago. In addition to immigration advising and other administrative duties Ken is active in advocacy of international educational policies at the state and federal level. He was awarded NAFSA's "Advocate of the Year" in 2013.

Rachel Banks is currently director for public policy at NAFSA, focusing primarily on international student and scholar issues. She also has experience working on Capitol Hill.

Carl A. Herrin

Assistant to the President for International, Community & Governmental Affairs
Worcester State University

Carl A. Herrin is the assistant to the president for international, community, and governmental affairs at
Worcester State University. He has worked in the field of international education and exchange since
1980, with a focus on government relations since 1983. He is also a senior partner at Global Education Solutions LLC. Herrin has served as chair of the NAFSA Education Abroad Knowledge Community, a founding board member of the Forum on Education Abroad, working chair of NAFSA's Strategic Task Force on Education Abroad, and chair of the Interorganizational Task Force on Safety and Responsibility in Study Abroad. Prior to forming his own consulting firm, he worked at the American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS, the Alliance for International Educational and Cultural Exchange, the International Exchange Association (IEA), and in government relations at NAFSA. He began his career with the International Student Exchange Program at Georgetown University, and earned his BA there in 1981.
