Gain insight from a real employer who is continuously hiring international students from a variety of academic backgrounds. Learn why so many students hit a brick wall when it comes to landing that dream job in the United States. This session will examine what exactly goes through the minds of employers when they interview international students, and suggests tips on advising STEM, non-STEM, and non-traditional major students struggling to find employment.

Claire Newton is COO of campusSIMs, Inc. Prior to joining campusSIMs, Claire was an attorney specializing in U.S. employment law. As an employment lawyer, Claire advised employees working in U.S. corporations, non-profits and schools. At campusSIMs, Claire actively recruits and hires international students and is knowledgeable about the benefits and challenges of hiring international students. Claire has experience with all aspects of the hiring process - from recruitment to interviews, visa documentation, training and job performance issues. On behalf of campusSIMs, Claire has also sponsored several H1b applications. Claire is passionate about the benefits of hiring international students.

Elena Korepanova

Doctoral Researcher
University of Massachusetts-Boston

Elena is a doctoral researcher at the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development of the University of Massachusetts Boston. Before that, she worked at the Center for International Students and Scholars at Bentley University where she handled a variety of responsibilities, including immigration advising, organization of cross-cultural events and workshops, and teaching freshman seminars. A native of Russia, Elena is passionate about international education. Her specific research interests include economic migration, globalization of labor and education, and multicultural education. Elena holds M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration, M.S. in Management, and B.A. in Romance and Germanic Philology.
