This session will discuss best practices in international student recruitment for IEPs, and how to benefit from such efforts to increase degree seeking international students on campus.

May Arthur, came to the US as an international student to pursue higher education. After extensive business experience, she co-founded the Olin Center (currently known as EC Boston), where she enriched students learning experience by creating ties between students and universities, by developing a University Access Program in 1999, to assist international students with the selection and admission to area colleges and universities.

Her commitment to advancing international education can be seen through her presentations at NAFSA conferences, current service on NAFSA Region XI leadership, and previous service on the Executive Board of EnglishUSA for 9 years.

Caroline Gear

Executive Director
International Language Institute of Massachusetts

Caroline Gear is the executive director at the International Language Institute (ILI) of Massachusetts in Northampton. She began at ILI in 1986 as a teacher, then administrator and teacher trainer. She is a master trainer for the World Learning SIT Graduate Institute'sTESOL certificate course. Caroline writes articles on assessment and evaluation and presents in the area of teacher training and supervision both regionally and nationally. She continues to teach English and Spanish to various adult populations and previously lived and worked in Peru, Mexico, and Spain. She served on the executive board of directors for EnglishUSA. She served as the Intensive English Program Network Leader from 2010-2012 and is currently the Intensive English Program Member Interest group leader as well as past president of the Northampton, Massachusetts International Rotary Club.

Jim Paul

Director, Boston Office
U.S. Department of Commerce

Jim Paul is Director of the Boston Office at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In this capacity, he coordinates this agency's activities in assisting Massachusetts exporters with increasing their business opportunities overseas and Massachusetts educational institutions with their international student recruitment activities. As former Education Team Leader for this agency, he organized worldwide assistance to educational institutions with promotion of their programs to international students and partners. Mr. Paul received a BA in Political Economy of Industrial Societies from the University of California, Berkeley. He later earned a MBA in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
