This session offers the space for graduate students and new professionals in international education to hear from seasoned professionals who serve in mentoring, supervisory, and hiring official roles. Learn about how to gain a strong footing in the field by avoiding common pitfalls in the job search process, making the best use of your mentoring relationships, and developing your skills in ways that will advance your work and please your boss and future employers.

Emma Swift

Assistant Director, International Student Services
University of Vermont

Emma serves as the Assistant Director for International Student Services at the University of Vermont. In this role, she leads the international student services team for a rapidly-expanding international population of graduate, undergraduate, exchange, and pathway students. Emma is the PDSO for UVM and sets institutional policy, manages the departmental database, and provides leadership for programming and advising. She holds her undergraduate and Master's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she also worked for three years in the office of International Student and Scholar Services as the primary advisor to international undergraduate students.

Parker Emerson

Associate Director
Yale University Office of International Students and Scholars

Parker Emerson is the Associate Director of Yale University’s OISS. There he oversees all employment based visa sponsorship. He has been a member of the Counsel for Global Immigration (formerly ACIP) since 1995 and an active member of NAFSA since 1985. Currently he is the RegBud (student) for Region XI and a Government Regulatory Advisory Council (GRAC) member. Prior to joining Yale he was a leading member of the Harvard International Office for almost 20 years. Mr. Emerson has also been an adjunct faculty member of Lesley University, teaching in the Master’s degree program on Intercultural Relations.

With over 30 years in the field of International Education, I have broad experience and expertise in immigration advising, student affairs, leading cross-cultural workshops and programs, career advising, and inclusion and diversity issues as it relates to international and domestic students. I am an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University's program in International Higher Education where I have had the privilege of mentoring professionals entering the field of international education.
Proudly I serves as a Board Member of the Irish International Immigrant Center, a non-profit which addresses immigration services, health and wellness and educational needs of the Boston immigrant community..
