At Johnson & Wales University, International and Intercultural Programming Coordinator Michael Waugh and Study Abroad Advisor Sarah Croft co-facilitate a five-part discussion series, in which students explore their own identity in relation to privilege, power, race, and allyhood, and how that relates to leadership on campus.This presentation will explore how to teach multicultural competence through current events and theoretical literature.

Michael Waugh is the Assistant Director of International and Intercultural Programming at Johnson & Wales University. He has worked in education abroad, international student advising, and multicultural programming for ten years. Through these experiences, he has engaged in internationalization initiatives and global competency work from many different perspectives. He received his MA in international education from the School for International Training.

I attended university in Italy and Greece before ultimately obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Australia's University of Sunshine Coast and a Master of Science in Human Development from the University of Rhode Island. After working at RISD, Brown, and Stanford - I have enjoyed continuing to promoting multiculturalism and internationalization in this role at Johnson & Wales. My personal foundations include an affinity for Jack Kerouac novels, painting ocean scenes, and playing myukulele.
