90-minute Conference Session

Best Practices Working with Undocumented and DACA-mented Students

Wednesday, October 19
3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Room: Rose Island II

Do you work with undocumented students wanting to study abroad? What support can and should schools provide for undocumented and DACA-mented students? Separate facts from myths and learn how to support their access to education abroad. We have a nice mix of a study abroad adviser, an immigration adviser and an attorney to talk about new developments in the courts.  We will also have a DACA student share his personal experience in making the decision to go to college and later participate in study abroad.

Constance Whitehead Hanks

Associate Director Study Abroad Programs
Clark University

My name is Constance (Connie) Whitehead Hanks, Associate Director of Study Abroad at Clark University. I received my BA from Connecticut College and my MS in Communications from Clark University. I have taught students ages K-12, non-traditional learners, and English as a second language. Still, I find that facilitating experiential opportunities for students across cultures is the most personally rewarding field of education. Supporting the students as they learn to problem-solve, adapt, negotiate differences, learn languages, gain in independence and self-confidence, and reflect is both an honor and a privilege. Our students become leaders in global understanding.
