"Live" from Trainer Corps: Transferable Training Skills for International Educators

Trainer Corps (TC) prepares NAFSAns to deliver training in their areas of expertise. This session, delivered by current and previous members of TC’s Annual Conference training team, brings TC’s curriculum to all Region XI conference participants. The session introduces several TC training tips and tools, including focusing on participant learning needs, using a training plan, giving feedback, co-training, insuring learner engagement, and personalizing one’s training. Participants will conclude the session with inspiration for delivering training in the future.

Sora Friedman

Professor and Chair, International Education
SIT Graduate Institute

Sora Friedman has worked in international education for 32 years, focusing on adult exchanges, public diplomacy, training, high-school exchanges, and policy advocacy. At SIT Graduate Institute, she supports new IE professionals as they develop skills and find their way into new professional opportunities. Sora teaches IE policy, program design, educational theory, and advocacy, and serves as Chair of the IE degree. Previously, Sora served in Region XI's chair-stream and as Conference Chair; and nationally, as Chair of Training Coordination Subcommittee and Trainer Corps. Sora holds a doctorate in cultural studies, master’s in international administration, and certificate in distance education.

Amy J. Whitish-Temple

Amy Whitish-Temple currently serves as a University Relations Representative in the Northeast for Academic Programs International (API). She oversaw the Fulbright program in Latin America and the Caribbean in her previous role as Program and Development Manager at LASPAU, an affiliate of Harvard University. Amy has over 15 years of experience in the field of international education and holds NAFSA volunteer leadership positions on both the Region XI Leadership and Trainer Corps Preparation teams. She has served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic, taught ESL to Fulbrighters in Managua, Nicaragua, and studied abroad in both Mexico and Spain. She holds a BA in English and Spanish (University of Wisconsin, Madison) and MA in Teaching English as a Second Language (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign).
