Global Partner Session: How Education New Zealand and Go Overseas Partnered to Increase Study Abroad Numbers

This session will demonstrate how governments and private institutions can collaborate to increase international student numbers. In 2014, Education New Zealand and Go Overseas partnered to promote New Zealand to U.S. study abroad students, leading to a 30 percent increase in the number of U.S. students in New Zealand in 2015.

Mitch Gordon is the CEO/ Co-founder of Go Overseas and the Entrepreneur in Residence at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. Mitch is an entrepreneur, starting a number of companies in the field of travel & education. Go Overseas, with ~1 million monthly visitors, is the most trusted resource for researching international education programs around the world. Mitch is a frequent presenter in the areas of entrepreneurship, business and international education. He previously lived in Taipei, Taiwan for 5 years and currently resides in San Francisco. Mitch has completed an MBA at UC Berkeley and a BS at Binghamton University. When he’s not working you can find Mitch on a run, playing rugby, traveling or reading.

Amy Rutherford is passionate about international education. She’s been an international student (twice! First in the US as an exchange student during her bachelor’s degree and again in 2014 as a Chinese language student in Beijing), and she’s the daughter of an English mother who travelled to New Zealand in the mid-1970s on a teacher exchange - international education is in her blood.

Based in Los Angeles for ENZ, Amy is responsible for providing strategic advice and intelligence to further the development of the North American markets for New Zealand. Her day-to-day work involves education diplomacy, and liaison with US universities and other international education stakeholders to progress New Zealand government objectives.
