Soundstage: NAFSA Film Festival: Alive and Kicking

Thursday, June 2
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM
Room: CCC, Hall A, Soundstage Area

Filmed in Limpopo, South Africa, “Alive & Kicking” takes us on an emotional journey as grandmothers take on the sport of soccer. Through their camaraderie on the field, the ‘grannies’ erupt into laughter and song to help fuel their singular struggle towards decent lives, health, and a taste of joy in an otherwise harsh and desolate world.

A post-screening discussion will follow with the film’s director. South African born and raised, Lara-Ann de Wet is a freelance documentary filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. Having graduated from New York Film Academy in September 2015, she recently won a Jury Prize for “Spirited Storytelling” as part of the inaugural Doc NYC U Competition at the Doc NYC Film Festival.

Presented by the New York Film Academy, College of Visual & Performing Arts
