Lorna Middlebrough

Education Specialist for Iraq

Lorna Middlebrough is the Education Specialist for Iraq at the U.S. Department of State where she strives to advance U.S. public diplomacy by engaging with Iraqi academics and students. She works to increase the number of Iraqi students studying at U.S. universities by strengthening the capacity of the Iraqi scholarship programs and higher education offices, supporting U.S. universities in their recruitment and retention activities, and creating pathways to facilitate admission for Iraqi students. Previously, she was the EducationUSA Advisor in Iraq for two years, where she organized the first EducationUSA university fairs and initiated social media outreach to Iraqi scholarship holders. Lorna has taught ESL in the United States, China, and Turkey. She has also worked in public relations with USAID/Sri Lanka and the private sector. She has a BA in Public Communication from American University and an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language from Johns Hopkins University. Lorna is a contractor with OBXtek, supporting the U.S. Government.
