Join representatives from U.S. institutions that received the 2015 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization in facilitated roundtable discussions. The presenters will share their successful internationalization strategies as evidenced in practice, structures, philosophies, and policies.

Jim Cooney is the Vice Provost for International Affairs at Colorado State University (CSU) and also serves as director of the Office of International Programs overseeing International Student Services, Education Abroad, and International Initiatives. CSU received NAFSA's Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization in 2013. Cooney served as the Chair of the APLU Commission on International Initiatives from 2014-16, and he is the director of APLU's national project on next steps for campus internationalization. He worked at Harvard University for 23 years at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He served on the AFS Intercultural Learning Board of Trustees, including as chairman of the board; on the New England Fulbright Board as vice president; and on the Board of Directors of NAFSA. In 2003 he received the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Cooney received his BA from Harvard College and his PhD in political science from MIT, and has authored five books on U.S.-European relations.
