This session aims to share the most effective strategies in the recruitment and retention of international sponsored students, as well as best practices for mobilizing on-campus resources and developing a strategic plan.

Salma Benhaida is the Director of International Recruitment, Admissions and Sponsored Student Services at Kent State University. Salma is responsible for international recruitment, admissions, and sponsored programs across the eight-campus system of Kent State University; She oversees recruitment and admissions of international undergraduate, graduate and ESL students. Additionally, Salma acts as liaison between Kent State University and various sponsoring agencies and embassies. She holds a B.S. in Accountancy and a M.A. in Communications from The University of Akron. In addition to English, Salma is fluent in French and Arabic.

Daniel Whitmer is the associate director of Sponsored Student Services in the Office of International Services at Indiana University, Bloomington. Prior to IU, Daniel spent five years working at a two-year state school in Indiana where he was director of International and Multicultural Student Affairs. Daniel spent nine years living and working in East Asia in the fields of education as well as poverty alleviation and development.
