This session provides country-specific data, trends, and personal accounts of recruiting activity successes and challenges when working with students from this emerging market.

JoBeth Brudner is Managing Director of Linden Educational Services, a company that has been introducing international students to accredited U.S. universities since 1982. Prior to joining Linden, JoBeth was the coordinator of the EducationUSA advising centers throughout Argentina, 1989-1998, and represented Latin America on the NAFSA: Association for International Educators OSEAS Leadership team from 1993-1996. She has been an active member of NAFSA and presenter at several national and international conferences and has developed and facilitated international recruitment workshops. JoBeth began leading tours for Linden in 1998, and for many years her region of expertise was Latin America. A native New Yorker, she has called Buenos Aires Argentina her home for over thirty years now. JoBeth broadened her regional expertise to include India and other countries in South Asia in 2008 and started leading tours to the Middle East in 2012. Jobeth enjoys absorbing different cultures while traveling the world.

John Williamson has lead Enrollment offices at four universities as well as at a Boarding & Day School. He left his institutional recruitment career and created the Boarding School division of Linden, which quickly grew into one of the largest Boarding School recruitment companies on the planet. With that success, the then bought & merged the University side of Linden to create a full fleet of offices dedicated to the enrollment needs of both Universities and Boarding Schools. He continues to create progressive recruitment initiatives to ensure stable, and mission-appropriate enrollments at schools which travel with Linden.

Joseph J. Hindrawan

As Associate Vice Provost for International Education, Joseph Hindrawan is responsible for International Enrollment Management and Sponsored Programs in Asia. He is the chief university officer responsible for developing and implementing an overall international enrollment strategy (international recruitment and retention of undergraduate and graduate international students), overseeing the International Admissions unit (including academic credentials evaluation); working with the Graduate School, professional schools and graduate departments on admissions standards, marketing and recruitment.

Hindrawan is also responsible for developing the University at Buffalo's (UB) sponsored programs in Asia including support of contract negotiation, overseeing the start-up of programs and ongoing administration of programs. He is responsible for the oversight of UB’s exchange programs in China and is also a member of the administrative team overseeing UB's branch campus in Singapore.

Hindrawan has been visiting China and working with Chinese institutions of higher education and recruiting in China for the past 15 years.

Hindrawan holds a B.Sc. from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan and an MBA from the University at Buffalo. He is a member of NAFSA: Association of International Educator, AIEA and AACRAO. He is a recipient of the 2005 Japan-U.S. International Education Administration (IEA) Fulbright award. In 2006, Hindrawan received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service. He was a member of the EducationUSA Reconnect-Plus Delegation to Indonesia funded by the Department of State in November 2009.

Dane Rowley

For over a decade Dane Rowley has been working with students from the United States and around the world in outreach, counseling, admission, advising, and teaching. He currently serves as Director of International Admission at California Lutheran University where he is responsible for all international undergraduate and graduate student enrollment. He previously served as Dean of Admissions at Augustana College, Illinois. Dane has lived, worked, and studied abroad in three countries, has traveled to dozens of others and is passionate about educating leaders for a global society.
