The iMOOC: American e-Learning for International Online and On-Campus Students

Successful adaptation to American e-learning environments is essential for international students studying online and on-campus. A free, on-demand, Coursera-based massive open online course (MOOC) is intended to serve individual students, as well as organized cohorts, across educational institutions in the United States and globally.

Prior to joining SUNY in 2006, Dr. Val Chukhlomin worked as Vice-President and Dean of a large, nationally accredited Omsk State University in Russia and as an International Education Consultant in Australia. Currently, he is Associate Professor and Academic Area Coordinator in the Center for Distance Learning at the State University of New York's Empire State College. In the field of international education his interests include international distance learning, international marketing of education, computer-mediated cross-cultural communication, branding, employability skills, and global competencies.

Bidhan Chandra

Bidhan Chandra is associated with research design, content development, piloting and assessment in the iMOOC course.
He holds MBA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in international business from University at Buffalo. He is currently a Professor at the Center for Distance Learning at Empire State College, State University of New York, where he develops and teaches courses in international business and international management.
Bidhan is an experienced international educator/consultant and an expert in implementing strategies for addressing international cross-cultural issues on effective learning. He has held important teaching and cross-cultural coaching/training assignments in several countries outside of the U.S., such as in Canada, China, Costa Rica, Cyprus, India, Lebanon, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. He utilizes his multi-domain engineering and business knowledge and multicultural, multinational experience to provide customized and unique solutions to client’s needs. His main focus in on workplace cultural and behavioural aspects of geographically dispersed teams engaged in information technology, engineering, manufacturing, R&D, and other aspects of the knowledge processing industry. He assists clients’ team members in their mutual cultural adaptation process across cultural, time zone and distance barriers and to build and sustain highly effective global teams.

Anant R. Deshpande

Associate Professor and Area Coordinator

Anant Deshpande,Ph.D. holds a Ph.D. in business administration. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Center for Distance Learning at ESC where he coordinates and teaches courses in management and finance. He is currently also serving as an international supply chain consultant. He is an active researcher in online education and the area of management. He has presented many papers in prestigious international conferences, such as Academy of Management and Academy of International Business, and has papers published in peer reviewed journals, such as the South African Journal of Higher Education and Journal of Management Policy and Practice. He has also conducted grant related work on MOOCs and presented on this topic.
