Donna M. Zyry, DVM, MS, CPIA

Associate Research Fellow, Pfizer Inc

Donna Zyry, DVM, MS, CPIA, is an Associate Research Fellow in Global Animal Welfare and Compliance within Pfizer Comparative Medicine (CM) and is located in Groton, CT. Her primary responsibilities include internal and external communications on animal issues, supporting the 3Rs of animal research at Pfizer and influencing the external environment in support of biomedical research. She also interacts with key animal welfare and regulatory organizations to stay on top of new regulatory trends, requirements and global concerns in animal use and care, working to support positions and policy appropriate to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. Donna joined Pfizer in 1994 as a clinical research investigator in the (former) Pfizer Animal Health division. In 2007, she became Director of Regulatory Compliance for the CM Groton site, leading the Groton CM regulatory compliance group. She assumed her current role in 2014. Donna received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the State University of New York College at Purchase and a Master of Science in Pathology from the University of Rhode Island. She earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.

Mary Jo Shepherd, DVM, CPIA

Executive Director of the Office of the IACUC, Columbia University

Mary Jo Shepherd, DVM, CPIA, is executive director of the office of the IACUC at Columbia University. In this position she administers an IACUC for a large animal care and use program. She has served on IACUCs since early 1988, and was a member of five IACUCs for a number of years while serving as attending veterinarian for a privately owned medical device testing laboratory. She has spent over eight years working in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Shepherd is currently active in PRIM&R, and previously served as the chair of the Council for CPIA. In 2012, she received PRIM&R’s Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Shepherd has been active in AALAS at the local and national levels, and is currently serving on AALAS’ editorial review board. In addition, she was actively involved in the planning of the New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research’s annual IACUC conference for over 11 years, and has served on the Americans for Medical Progress Board of Directors for five years.
