Keynote Session: To Rule, Manage, or Lead? That is the question.
Keynote Session Speaker: Tony Decker, MA, Vice President, Westcare Management Inc., Salem, OR

Keynote Session Description: One of the most important questions for anyone in supervisory position is: How do you get people to do the things you need them to do? For centuries, the three most prominent choices have been to rule, manage, or lead. In this session, we will uncover why ruling and managing are best suited for animals and objects, but not for human beings. When we choose to lead, we create a work environment where individuals are intrinsically motivated and clearly recognize their worth. During this session we will uncover philosophies and leadership principles that drive virtually limitless possibilities for positive change, growth, and continuous improvement.

Title: Intentional Culture: Keeping the Meaning and Purpose in our Work
Session Speaker: Phil Fogg Jr., President/CEO, Marquis Companies, Milwaukie, OR

Session Description: With the future of healthcare in flux, have you been able to focus on your company culture? Intentional Culture is not just a program, it is how we do what we do and it is authentic. Even though there are many strategic initiatives and programs to focus on during Healthcare Reform, without intentional culture, you will not survive. In this session, you will hear from an owner's perspective how to demonstrate intentional culture. Also, hear testimonials from residents and staff about the programs that allow them to be a part of the company culture. Intentional culture allows you to keep the meaning and purpose in your work, without it, nothing else matters.

Title: Creating the Next Generation of the Interdisciplinary Team: What Leaders Need to Know & DO
Speaker: Lou Ann Brubaker, President, Brubaker Consulting, Laurel, MD

Session Description: There is an amazing difference in care quality and overall achievement in some non-profit organizations because their diverse professional disciplines collaboratively 'fire on all cylinders'. It shows in their Mission achievement, as well as in their resident/family satisfaction, financial, census, and regulatory success. In the future, enhanced interdisciplinary nimbleness also will be a primary success contributor to positive outcomes and success within a 'value-based' reimbursement model.

This engaging, fun-packed session gets at the heart of the magic: what leaders must DO to get their current teams outside of their historical silos: enhance team communication (and disagreement), address team/team member dysfunction, set quantifiable team goals, make sound decisions and manage change.
